Dr. Long Introduction to Orff, Kodaly and Dalcroze

Music experience and instruction must begin in a child's life as early  as possible.
Instill within each child a love of music based on knowledge and understanding, stemming from first hand, active music making experiences, beginning with lullabies childhood chants, folks songs and  singing games.
Musical materials to be used must be of the highest artistic caliber.

1. Learning folk songs and traditional, local songs.
2. Control the class by singing.
3. Playing accompaniment with children.
4. Having two kids in a classroom (similar level)
5. F major is a perfect key to start with.
6. Kodaly wrote 333 singing exercises.
7. Solfege and hand signs make music learning more effective. (In tune)

New Sight

Yes, today is indeed a new sight for me... well, I realised to:
1. teach finger techniques and drills
2. teach Trinity Guildhall theory
3. give precise order and direction when teaching
4. do not give a vague instruction, e.g. u practice this every day (but how many times a day?)
5. two note slur means wrist float off...

Anyway, I really thanks to everyone that gave me new sight... this makes my job prospect better and more initiative... sometimes, self-employed is not a good thing, we will lag and lack... hahha... alright, cheers.

CHIT CHAT or LESSON TALK?

CHIT CHAT: How's your school? Do u have bf/gf? Did u join sports?

LESSON TALK: I enjoyed this the most... I like to talk about Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern period... piano music grew like a tree... from seed to roots to tree to branches to leaves... well, they really enjoyed listening to the theory too... I tell them how practical it is to play for others and for ourselves...

Today, Vic was quite surprised cos the whole lesson was theory... and although theoretical, i explained to him how important it is to compose a song for a singer or instrumentalist... we have to write a singer-friendly song...

Then, KJ and Kat came for lesson, because CNY is near, I let them play CNY songs... quite easy to write and play... later I watched ALVIN & THE CHIPMUNKS and SHERLOCK HOLMES until I took a nap on the sofa.

Then Lows came, they were ok, I just need to be strict with them. Then Eri and Adr came too... they were doing well...

Cheers

Choir Practice today...

Today, I was being assigned to write music for the choir group... very simple. After that I played games... and Vil came for practice... she's grade 3 but she's trying to play a piece which fits for grade 6... well, i just let her try because she's a hardworking person and wise too. Then, the two girls came, I call them the P-Gals... they were so happy during class... made me happy too...

Jord came for lesson and I let him do his Instrument Book, then revision thru the lesson book... and taught him the Sad Bear and DORE Rock... he's very intelligent...

then the Low family came for class too... MC was really good and his improvements never stopped... but MY was a little mismanaged cos he rarely practice... EL was a nice girl who likes to do revisions... good for her...

I also taught Ser and her focus will lose but she's a hardworking person... Then Han came, her piece had improved but when I'm beside her, she would tense up and everything goes wrong... haiya...

KKMS this year

Music Fest will be held on 5th September (sun) at Nexus Karambunai Resort... hotel room rate is Rm340 nett... I think I will stay there with my family... I wonder what post will I be doing this year... bouncer (jaga pintu)? JA (judge asst.)? Reception? well... anything also can.

however, i must get my students ready for music exams first (in May)... also in April, there will be some concerts and workshops...

I have learnt from my teaching this week, is that I must take time off my students... meaning, dont rush over something that they cannot do... i was too fast... and although I'm impatient, I must learn to use the impatience to create something easier and more basic for them to accomplish... yes...
